Grasping At Straws

Dear friends,

I want to write something positive.  I want to inspire.  I want to get my head above water.  I need to regroup.  I will write once I find a porthole.

In the meantime, my mom sent me something that is particularly appropriate.  I hope you laugh.  We can always make some room for a chuckle.

A Doctor was addressing a large audience in Tampa.  ‘The material we put into our stomachs is enough to have killed most of us sitting here, years ago.

Red meat is awful.  Soft drinks corrode your stomach lining. Chinese food is loaded with MSG. High fat diets can be disastrous, and none of us realizes the long-term harm caused by the germs in our drinking water.

However, there is one thing that is the most dangerous of all and we all have eaten, or will eat it.

Can anyone here tell me what food it is that causes the most grief and suffering for years after eating it?’

After several seconds of quiet, a 75-year-old man in the front row raised his hand, and softly said, ‘Wedding Cake.’

  1. I think you ARE inspiring – for the very fact that you can write words like Positive and Inspire and Regroup. Instead of a porthole, you have found a pothole. Keep looking, the R will show up.

  2. So true, so true…
Hope you can get your feet back under yourself… Dust off the stink, hug those wonderful kids, breathe in some fresh air…
    I’m here…

  3. Pat,

I found an ‘R’ last night while fretting and thinking in bed; and I discovered more ‘R’s’ this morning. The overriding lesson for me is that there isn’t one way or one porthole.

And as I speculated at the beginning of the blog, it is a long interesting journey.

Luckily, there seem to be more portholes than potholes.

  4. Annie,

Just as you were ‘here’ for me yesterday with your encouraging emails.

The other lesson here is that most often, portholes = friends.

    And I am truly blessed.

  5. Pat,

p.s. I loved this whole pothole/porthole thing. Way to go!

  6. Personally, I don’t care if you write something “positive”. I prefer real and honest. That way, I know where I stand with you.

  7. Sometimes I try to shoot for positive and honest because I don’t know how much more I can beat this dead horse.

    … and I can’t shoot the horse.
