On Tying The Knot

What a happy and holy fashion it is that those who love one another should rest on the same pillow.
Nathaniel Hawthorne

Marriage is an alliance entered into by a man who can’t sleep with the window shut, and a woman who can’t sleep with the window open.
George Bernard Shaw

A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.
Mignon McLaughlin

Don’t marry the person you think you can live with; marry only the individual you think you can’t live without.
James C. Dobson

Come, let’s be a comfortable couple and take care of each other!  How glad we shall be, that we have somebody we are fond of always, to talk to and sit with.

  1. Here is my favorite marriage quotation… I love it…

“Marriage hath in it less of beauty but more of safety, than the single life; it hath more care, but less danger, it is more merry, and more sad; it is fuller of sorrows, and fuller of joys; it lies under more burdens, but it is supported by all the strengths of love and charity, and those burdens are delightful.” – Bishop Jeremy Taylor (1613 – 1667)

  2. Susan,

That is an amazing quote. And it’s so true.

    Thanks for sharing. ;)

  3. Susan, I’ve never heard that quote before. It’s beautiful. That’s why I always joke that there’s no one I’d rather be annoyed by than the man I’m married to. With all his warts and foibles (and I’m more than aware I have them too), at the end of the day there’s no one in the world I’d rather be married to than him.

  4. Pat,

And that is how I define success – not money, acclaim, big house or a title. To me, success is a good (with all it’s inherent annoyances) relationship.
