Idolizing Cinderella

cinerella“Mom!  Can I do that thing like Cinderella?  Can I scrub the floor with a brush and a bucket like Cinderella?”

__________

Should I have delivered the mini-lecture on feminism?

Is this the wants of a Lizard Brain in hyper-drive?

Did she see me try to perfectly clean her dad’s floor one too many times?

Did I make a mistake by letting her watch Cinderella?

Or is it all just fun and play?

*I did not make this up.  Jenny wanted to do this.

Seriously.

  1. It is fun and play… once she figures out that it is not as glamorous as Cinderella portrayed, it will be put on the back shelf of things to do… Hey on the bright side, she might like to clean. My daughter loves to and she didn’t get that gene from me…

Also, if there isn’t ‘pressure’ to do it ‘right’, she might just chalk it up to getting a job done… When I clean or do ANYTHING, in the back of my head I am always asking myself if this will be approved…. sad…..

  2. Annie,

I’m a non-cleaner. Always hard for me to see that cleaning could be fun. Although, with the right music to sing to while cleaning, it’s much better.

I know what it’s like to wonder if what I’ve done will meet with approval.

Now it just has to meet with mine.

  3. Heck – give her the mop and the bucket. It’ll be fun for two or three times, then she’ll be ready to quit. Nobody’s forcing her to do it. She’s just being Cinderella. It’s a role to try on. In the meantime, your floor might get a little cleaner . . . or not (O:

  4. Pat,

Yep. That’s what I did. I’m going to enjoy her love of cleaning while it lasts.

Besides, if I make it an issue, I’d probably have to set aside more in her counseling fund.

    Missed you. ;)
